§01DISPOSAL & DATA DESTRUCTION

One offer. Free collection, certified destruction, paperwork on file.

The legitimate UK ITAD model: redundant equipment with residual value is collected free of charge; sanitisation and destruction are documented to a standard a cautious manager can file as evidence. You receive the relief and the audit trail. Nothing more is asked of you.

01 Free Collection where kit carries resale value

03 5 days Certificate + WTN delivered after collection

SERVICE · 01 / 04 Free Compliant Collection

Free collection across West Yorkshire and the North.

Booked at your convenience. Insured transport. Signed manifest at handover. Equipment serialised on receipt at the workshop. Sanitised or physically destroyed against your stated requirement. Certificate of Data Destruction and Waste Transfer Note delivered within five working days of collection.

Free where the equipment carries resale value, which is the standard UK ITAD model that every credible competitor runs. Where it does not, a small handling charge is quoted up front.

COVERAGE · 4 ENTRIES
01

Equipment

What's collected

Workstations, laptops, servers, networking, storage. Monitors and peripherals on the same collection. Drives kept attached or pulled and destroyed separately, your choice.

Example range of equipment collected — workstations, laptops, networking gear, storage drives staged for assessment
02

Sanitisation

Wipe or physical destruction

NIST 800-88-aligned overwrite is included with every consignment. Physical destruction (drill, shred, degauss) is available on request as a chargeable extra, from £10 per drive, supplied with a before-and-after evidence packet. Most policies don't require this. Where they do, it's done properly.

A 3.5-inch hard disk drive after physical destruction — drilled through the platter, evidence of irrecoverable data destruction
03

Documentation

Certificate plus WTN

One certificate per consignment, serial-by-serial where requested. Waste Transfer Note filed against your organisation. Both kept on record for the statutory minimum and longer on request.

04

Resale

How the model funds itself

Refurbishable equipment is restored to working condition and resold; that resale is the margin that makes the collection free. The customer's data is destroyed before any equipment leaves the workshop floor for resale.

Response within 1–2 working days. Quote and collection date confirmed in writing.

§02PROCESS · HOW IT WORKS

Chain of custody, in five steps.

Written plainly so a cautious manager can file it as the supporting evidence. Same process whether the consignment is one laptop or a school's refresh cycle.

  1. 01

    Enquire

Outline the equipment, quantity, location and access. Quote and collection scope agreed in writing before anything moves.

Booked at your convenience. Insured transport, signed manifest at handover. Chain of custody starts at your door.

  3. 03

    Receipt

Equipment logged on arrival at the workshop. Drives and identifiable assets recorded against the consignment.

  4. 04

    Sanitisation

NIST 800-88-aligned overwrite for usable drives. Physical destruction for end-of-life media or where required. Verification logged per device.

§03ABOUT · THE WORKSHOP

A West Yorkshire workshop, accountable end to end.

Sovereign IT Systems runs two halves of the same business under one roof: WEEE-compliant IT asset recovery and certified data destruction on one side, bespoke system builds and vintage restoration on the other. The disposal side funds the craft work. The craft work is the credential the disposal side needs.

Sovereign IT Systems is operator-led by Nick Morrison, twenty years on the bench, accountable for every consignment. Equipment intake, sanitisation, build work and certification all happen at the same West Yorkshire address — deliberate about scope rather than chasing volume, with every consignment moving through a documented chain from quote to certificate.

The site is short on purpose. Anything that cannot be defended in person has been left off. The licensing numbers below are issued and verifiable; the documentation pack is produced for every consignment; the workshop is open to scheduled visits by clients with active contracts.

Disposal pays the bills. The craft side is what makes the rest credible. Same workshop, same standards either way.

INTERLUDE · THE TWO HALVES

The hands that destroy your data to standard are the same hands that build the workstations in the workshop.

Disposal pays for the workshop. The craft side is the credential the disposal needs. Equipment worth saving becomes the source material for Sovereign builds. The craft work is kept deliberately small, taken on by arrangement, never a general PC shop.

§04CRAFT · SOVEREIGN MACHINES

The work we take on, deliberately.

Selective by intention, not by availability. A small number of commissions, restorations, and care arrangements taken on each year, each documented in the workshop journal. Premium, by arrangement, never a general PC shop.

The workshop validation rig

The machine the workshop runs on. Engineering-sample i9 silicon, validated through extended AVX2 runs and microcode verification. Currently powering the homelab where every service stack is tested before it ships.

Bespoke commissions follow the same regime: a written brief, considered spec with reasoning, validation under load, documented build journal. On-premise infrastructure for individuals or practices wanting their photos, files, communications and AI inference on hardware they own — by arrangement only.

Floor £2,500. Typical builds £3,000–£6,000+ depending on spec. 12-month warranty included on builds £3,000+.

Restore

Mail-in vintage hardware · documented · by arrangement

What's accepted

  • x86 PC systems from the 486 era forward
  • Consumer gaming hardware: PS1 family, similar-era consoles
  • Modern enthusiast and engineering-sample rebuilds
  • Tower-format vintage workstations

Not taken on

Amigas, Macs, anything outside hands-on familiarity. Better to refer you to the right specialist than do a job I am not the right person for.

How it works

  1. Describe what you have and the outcome wanted
  2. Scope and price agreed up front, in writing
  3. Insured shipping to the West Yorkshire workshop
  4. Restoration with a full work log, before/after photographs
  5. Return shipping with documentation pack

By arrangement only

Scope and price agreed in writing per case.

Selective intake. Not every project is a fit, and saying so up front is the point. Initial conversation is free and tells you whether it's worth proceeding.

§05JOURNAL · NOTES FROM THE WORKSHOP

Notes from the workshop.

Long-form writing on builds, restorations, and the case for owning your own infrastructure. Slow brand work, low frequency, real work written up properly.

    The Forbidden Silicon Workstation

Ten engineering-sample i9 chips from a Chinese seller. One went into a Mini-ITX build, the GPU wouldn't train, the chip became a Proxmox hypervisor. Cinebench R2026 rank five globally at submission, beating a 32-core Threadripper with sixteen. The workshop homelab now runs on it.

    Why owning compute matters

An honest essay on what self-hosting actually buys you, what it doesn't, and the compounding case for building your own infrastructure now while the cost of doing so is low.
